I see pokemon trainers everywhere constantly looking down and into their phones. Your head weighs 12 lbs. Every inch of FHP and the stress weight of the head on the spine increases by 10 pounds. I see office workers (and likely soon pokemon trainers) that regularly present with more than 3 inches migration of FHP. That&;s an additional 30 pounds of stress being leveraged on your cervical spine. This causes significant damage over time. As the stress accumulates in your neck, your body will adapt and change. This will affect your spinal alignment and create tightness into the muscles of the back of the neck and chest, and can be a result of weakness into the deep neck flexors and lower traps. This can be why you have neck pain, a constant knot in your shoulders, headaches, reduced lung capacity, mid back tightness, and pinched nerves.
This is entirely preventable. How do you fix this?
1. Stretch the tight muscles, strengthen the weak.
2. Conscious competency – Learn to pay attention to your positioning and correct accordingly
Change begins with something you do everyday. Start small and go from there.
